Book: The Tub Boats of Sado Island by Douglas BrooksThe TARAIBUNE, or tub boat, is one of the most unusual inshore fishing craft to be found in Japan. This craft is closely related to the traditons of barrel and bucket making.
Over the years the range of their use has slowly receded. On Sado's Ogi Peninsula, the taraibune remains a viable boat in the rich fishing grounds that exist close inshore. This book wants to document as completely as possible the craft of building taraibune. Ideally, a competent woodworker will be able to read this book and successfully build a taraibune. |
