The standard assembly for the universal support is vertical, for grinding counter to the direction of the cutting edge. This achieves more grinding pressure and faster grinding. The universal support can also be fixed in the horizontal grip, for grinding with the cutting edge. This lessens the grinding pressure, which is an advantage when cutting tools are being finely sharpened. The horizontal grip also helps maintain the same precision for buffing, as the equipment remains at exactly the same angle as for grinding.
