Pinch Dogs These robust staples are an amazingly simple and efficient way to glue boards together for tabletops and other wide surfaces. The deeper you drive them, the stronger the clamping pressure becomes, producing a strong, long-lasting glue joint. With long boards, it is a good idea to use one or more bar clamps in the middle of the piece to keep clamping pressure constant along the glue line.

Pinch dogs can also be used to reinforce bar clamps on the ends of boards, where glue-ups are most prone to splitting. Their simplicity and low price make them a good standby for big jobs. Bar clamps suitable for this kind of work are relatively expensive, and so few shops are equipped with as many as one would like to have. Bar clamps can be used for the initial clamping. After the glue has had time to set up, the Pinch Dogs can be used to maintain pressure for the glue to reach maximum strength, while the bar clamps are moved over to the next job. |

The angled insides of the staples pull the boards together as they are driven into the wood.
