Precision Saw Guide for 90° and 45° cuts - Basic Model Directions
With this simple but robust miter saw guide, you can make 90° cuts and 45° miters and bevels. The guide is designed to be used with Japanese Kataba saws with a blade thickness of between 0.4 mm and 0.6 mm. It works equally well for right- and left-handed people, as one must simply switch the guide assembly to the other end of the base plate.
The guide kit includes, from top to bottom:
- Guide assembly with grip
- Long-cut fence
- Cutting fence
- Three-part guide plate
- Allen wrench
Assembly
The three part guide plate is attached to the base plate and angle bracket screws as shown in the diagram above. This is easier if one uses a pencil, as in the drawing at left, to get everything lined up properly.
To cut miters, the angle bracket is unscrewed from the base plate and reattached to form the desired angle. To cut bevels, you unscrew the blade guide and the angle bracket, turn the bracket 180° and reattach it to the base plate, and then the blade guide is screwed to the angled bracket. The attachment points are clearly marked on the base plate.
For narrow work pieces, the normal fence is used. For wider pieces, use the longer fence.
All of the settings work as well for left handers as for right handers as you simply mount the angle bracket and saw guide on the opposite end of the base plate.
Assembly examples
Set at 90°
You use the allen wrench to unscrew the appropriate bolts to change the settings.
Assembled at 45° for miter cuts
Assembled at 45° for cutting bevels: right hand mounting
Assembled at 90° , with temporary fence clamped to the workbench, for wide work pieces.
In this case one must only change to the long cut fence.
